What is $MUSHROOM, and what does it actually do?
$MUSHROOM is the token the app is licensed in, on Solana, launching fair with no presale. It has four jobs: hold 250,000 and the app is unlocked forever; agents pay the pet per request over x402; every purchase in the app goes back into buying and burning supply; and the Founder Spore skin is minted only for the first 1,000 wallets that hold through launch week.
It is a way to buy and run a break reminder, not a promise of a return. The token section of the home page explains each of the four jobs in more detail.
What is Mushroom?
Mushroom is a pixel-art desktop pet for macOS and Windows. It sits on your screen and nudges you to drink water, take breaks, eat something, rest your eyes, and wind down at night. You can also click it and talk to it, and everything it knows about you stays on your computer.
How is this different from a Pomodoro or break timer app?
A timer fires on a schedule whether or not you are at the desk, so within a week you are dismissing it without reading it. Mushroom reads how long it has been since you last touched the keyboard, which means it can tell the difference between you working through lunch and you being at lunch. An hour at the desk earns a nudge, and an hour away earns nothing, because you already took the break.
The other half is that it is a pet. Muting a notification costs you nothing. A small creature you like having around is harder to tune out than a banner, and it never scolds, so there is no reason to switch it off.
What does Mushroom cost?
250,000 $MUSHROOM, once, and the app is yours on up to five machines with every future version included. There is no dollar price on this site and no card anywhere: the license is a balance in a wallet you control, so the day you stop wanting a pet that tells you to drink water, the license is still worth something.
The only thing that can be monthly is the pair of features that run on servers, Friends messaging and Spore Storage, at 75,000 $MUSHROOM a month, and you can run those yourself for nothing instead. The pricing page has both numbers and what they cover.
Is Mushroom a subscription?
The app is not. Hold the license amount and it never stops working, and every update since 1.0 has been free to everyone holding. Friends messaging and Spore Storage are the two features that run on our servers, and they come with the license amount, or as a 75,000 $MUSHROOM monthly pass, or free on a server of your own. A pass simply lapses at the end of the month: nothing renews by itself, because there is no card to charge.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, 7 days with no wallet, no account and no card. Long enough to find out whether a pixel mushroom can actually get you to stand up.
What happens when the trial ends?
Mushroom goes to sleep in the menu bar. Nothing is deleted: your reminders, notes, stats and settings stay exactly where they are, and a wallet holding 250,000 $MUSHROOM wakes all of it back up. The same is true later if you sell the coins and buy back in.
How many devices does one license cover?
Up to 5 devices on one wallet: Macs and Windows PCs together. Point each machine at the same wallet and it unlocks there too. If the balance check ever fails because you are offline or the RPC is down, Mushroom keeps working: it will not lock you out over a network problem.
Where do I get $MUSHROOM, and how do I spot a fake?
On Solana. The contract address is published in the token section of the home page and on @mushroom in the same minute, and those are the only two places it will ever appear. There is no presale, no whitelist and no form.
Anyone who messages you an address, offers to “unlock” the app for a transfer, or asks you to send coins to a wallet that is not published on this site is stealing from you. We will never do any of those things.
Are updates free?
Yes. Every update since 1.0 has been free to everyone holding the license amount. The app updates itself and checks the wallet afterwards, so an update never waits on a payment.
Can I use Mushroom at work, or buy it for a team?
Yes. An organization holds one license per person, each with its own wallet and the same 5 devices an individual would get. Spreading a single wallet across a team is the thing that is not allowed. There is a command line activation path for Jamf or Munki style deployment, documented on the help page.
How do refunds work?
There is nothing to refund, which is the point: the license is a balance you hold, not a payment you made. If the app does not do what this site says it does, write to hello@mushroom.rest and we will fix it, or send the coins back. A monthly pass you have not used can be swapped for another month inside the app.
Will it run on my Mac?
What Macs does Mushroom run on?
Any Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15 Sequoia or later. You can read what changed in each release in the changelog.
Does Mushroom run on Intel Macs?
No. Mushroom is Apple Silicon only from version 1.40.0 onwards. The on-device chat model cannot run on Intel hardware, so shipping an Intel build would have meant shipping a version where chat was permanently broken.
Does Mushroom run on Windows?
Yes, Windows 11. It has the same reminders, chat, Stash and Friends as the Mac, and the same wallet unlocks both. It is one license, so there is nothing extra to buy for it.
Does it run on Windows 10?
No. The Windows app is built and tested on Windows 11 only, so Windows 10 is not supported. Try it for free first: the 7 day trial is the honest way to find out on your own PC.
Is there an iPhone app?
The iPhone companion is a separate build that ships with the desktop app. Hold the license amount and it unlocks on the same wallet, with no second purchase. It needs iOS 18 or later.
The phone carries reminders, the Stash and Friends. It has no pet and no chat, because it is a companion to a Mac rather than a second copy of one.
Do I need Apple Intelligence to use Mushroom?
No. All the reminders, the reminders list, stats and streaks, the notepad, focus sessions, iCloud sync, Friends, file sharing and the Shortcuts actions work with no language model at all. Only chat needs one. On macOS 26 chat uses Apple Intelligence, and on macOS 15 or later without it you can download a small model once in Settings, Chat, which then runs entirely on your Mac.
How big is the chat model download?
Between about 1 GB and 2.5 GB, once. Settings, Chat suggests the size that suits your computer's memory, and you can delete it again there. Nothing is downloaded unless you ask for it, and on macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence there is nothing to download at all.
Does Mushroom need an internet connection?
Not for the things it does most. Reminders, chat, the notepad, stats and the pet itself all run offline. A handful of optional extras need the network for obvious reasons, such as weather, the daily quote, and the news digest.
Privacy
Does any of my data leave my Mac?
There is no account, no analytics and no telemetry of any kind. Your chats, reminders, notes and calendar events stay in one file on your Mac, and the chat model runs there too. Only a few features go online, and only for what they fetch: weather, the daily quote, news, any tool plugins you add (a plugin that calls your own API sends it what you asked for), and chat itself if you choose to point it at a server of your own. Each one is listed in the privacy policy.
What permissions does Mushroom ask for?
Nothing at all when you first launch it. Notifications are requested the first time a reminder needs one. Calendar, Photos and coarse location are only ever requested when you switch that specific feature on yourself, and the setting turns itself back off if you decline. Mushroom never asks for Accessibility or Input Monitoring, and it never listens to the microphone. The optional Quiet during calls setting only asks macOS whether another app has the microphone running, so nudges can wait; it receives no audio and needs no permission.
Does Mushroom sync between my Macs?
Optionally, through iCloud, using your own Apple Account and your own private CloudKit database. It is off until you turn it on in Settings, Data. Reminders, contacts, the notepad and your portable settings sync. Chat history, stats, reminder history and your license stay on each machine.
Is Mushroom open source?
The app itself is a paid product and is not open source. The two optional servers behind Friends and file sharing are, under Apache 2.0, so you can read exactly what they do or run them yourself instead of using ours.
Living with it
What does Mushroom remind me about?
Water, breaks, snacks, eye strain on a 20-20-20 rhythm, winding down at night, and a mood check-in. Water and breaks are on out of the box and the rest are yours to switch on. Break reminders watch how long you have actually been active rather than the clock, and nothing arrives while you are already away from the Mac.
Can I add my own reminders?
Yes, two ways. Type it to your mushroom in plain language, such as “remind me in two hours to call Sam”, or fill in a small form in the reminders list. The form path uses no language model, so custom reminders work on every supported Mac. Reminders can repeat daily, on the weekdays you pick, every few days or monthly.
Will Mushroom nag me or make me feel guilty?
No, and this is a design rule rather than a setting. Every nudge offers Done, Snooze and Skip, and Skip is treated as an honest answer that never affects your mushroom's mood. Ignoring reminders entirely makes it droop a little, and one click on the recover button cheers it up. There is no death, nothing taken away when a streak ends, and no red screen for a quiet week.
Can I hide the pet?
Yes. Hiding it closes the pet window only. Mushroom keeps running in the menu bar and every reminder still arrives, as a normal macOS notification instead of a speech bubble. Bring it back from the menu bar whenever you want.
Does a call or a video count as a break?
A call does not, on the Mac, once you turn on Quiet during calls in Settings, Notifications. While your microphone is in use, nudges wait and the time counts as time at the desk, even if you never touch the keyboard. Mushroom only checks whether the mic is on, never what it hears, so it asks for no permission. A call left running for more than two hours counts as the break it probably was.
Videos and reading still count as time away. Mushroom only knows how long it has been since you last touched the keyboard or mouse, and a film looks exactly like an empty chair. On Windows, calls count as time away too for now.
Does the pet show up when I share my screen?
On the Mac, yes: it is an ordinary window, so a screen share or a recording sees it. Hide it from the menu bar before you present and bring it back afterwards; reminders keep arriving as notifications meanwhile. On Windows, Settings has Leave the mushroom out of screen shares, which keeps it visible to you and invisible to the share.
Does Mushroom work with Shortcuts and Siri?
Yes. Mushroom adds two actions to the Shortcuts app, Add a Reminder and Start a Focus Session, and it does not need to be open for them to work. Siri on the Mac cannot call an app's actions directly, which is a macOS limitation, so wrap the action in a shortcut with a name you would say out loud and Siri can run that.
What languages does Mushroom speak?
English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese. It follows whichever language your Mac is set to.
